So!

After a decade out of fandom, when my daughter turned 10 recently I thought a little bit of self-care wouldn’t go amiss, what would I like to do, and the answer was, read some fanfic!

So I did.

And I enjoyed it. Been doing it for a few months now, enough to confidently say I’m definitely in fandom again, at least as a reader, so I thought I’d try reengaging.

Turns out I still have lj, dw, ao3 and tumblr accounts, although my twitter seems to have been purged…

I’m very aware fandom is no longer on lj or dw, and I’m likely talking to myself here, but if anyone is around and can tell me where fandom actually is these days, outside of ao3 for the fic, (seems to have maybe moved on from tumblr? Is it twitter? WTF is discord?!) that would be marvellous!

Anyway, what I’m probs mostly going to do is just rec a lot of stuff, and I’m going to start here with the fics I specifically searched out when I thought, ok, so what shall I reread? It therefore goes without saying these are all at least a decade old! I’ll rec new stuff I’m reading later. Might try and rec on my tumblr as well. Wish me luck…

I read a SPN fic that I enjoyed! *shock* I felt the need to share, because that hasn't happened for... years now.

Mostly the pairing or summary is enough to put me off, and if I read one SPN a month it's a good month. Anyway. I enjoyed If I never see your face again (I don't mind) by

vicious_trade, gen, 6k-ish, Sam and Dean focus, sick!Sam.

ALSO! I recced this before, but CANNOT speak too highly of it A Priori and sequel White Noise by Rubberbutton, PG-13, Sherlock/John, 6.6k and 8k words, vampire au where John is a human slave bought for Sherlock by Mycroft. Best thing I've read in a long time. REEEAD EEEEEET!!!!

girlfan1979. WARNING: They both include discipline of children/youngsters which could be considered abuse. In neither of these do I get the impression of John as cruel, just misguided, but YMMV on that a LOT - particularly on Sparta. But, if you can bear it - AMAZING writing.

Yeah, OK - it's pretty gruesome in places but if you can take it this is extraordinary. READ EEEET. I've read it twice even though I've had approximately 3 seconds internet time in the past six months. Just finished, and... started it again.

Well balanced and developed, portraying the awkwardness of adolescence (particularly when one is rather unfortunately in love with one's brother). IT DOESN'T MAKE IT EASIER and God knows it's hard enough as it is!
