I’m doing my own mini nanowrimo this Nov because I have SO MUCH to do in Nov and Dec.

I’m doing [community profile] hlh_shortcuts, [community profile] yuletide and am committed to writing a script, which I have never done before.

Unfortunately, while I hoped to jump right into either [community profile] yuletide or the script Nov 1st, I haven’t finished brushing up on my canon for yuletide or researching how tf to write a script, so I’m not ready.

However! I refuse to fail on my first day, and have only committed to 200 words a day, so I’ve written a bit of my [community profile] hlh_shortcuts fic, which may never actually see the light of day as the plot is still, uh, nebulous. But! Words. Let’s call it a win…

Day 1: 212 words, an extract for HLH fic.
Day 2: 317 words, SW5 started at 3,660 words and finished at 3,977.
Day 3: 402 words, started Yuletide!
Day 4: 246 words, Yuletide started at 402 words and finished at 648.
Day 5: 279 words, Yuletide started at 648 and finished at 927.
Day 6: 263 words, Yuletide started at 927 and finished at 1190.
Day 7: 275 words, Yuletide started at 1190 and finished at 1465. So tired my eyes hurt, but I still got something done \o/
Day 8: 233 words, Yuletide started at 1465 and finished at 1698.

I am writing! 🥳

Since breaking my duck with Yuletide 2023, I have written 7 fics (2 anonymous at the moment) in Master and Commander, Batman, Star Wars, Bridgeton, and original.

I currently have three WIPs I have actually posted the first parts of and am reasonably certain where I’m going with them…

My AO3 stats are amusing to me. Works in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, *crickets* 2023, 2024.

I have also signed up for [community profile] yuletide and [community profile] hlh_shortcuts 2024. Given that I haven’t written in Highlander for more than 25 years, and have never written in the fandoms I’ve offered for Yuletide, this should be fun 😬.

I’m going to challenge myself to a mininanowrimo of 200 words per day in Nov. I’ll join mini-wrimo on lj if they do a 2024 one🤞, or I’ll just challenge myself.

What are you writing in? Perhaps you could join one of those 👆challenges…
jasmasson: (Default)
Hello!

Thank you for signing up to the challenge and I’m very excited you got matched with me.

General things about my likes and dislikes; 1) I usually write m/m when I write myself, but am always happy with good gen, 2) I’m happy with any rating from the lightest, fluffiest gen to the most explicit NC17, and I’m good with most kinks including BDSM (my particular kink being orgasm delay/denial/control), incest and rapefic if that’s your jam, with the exceptions being bodily fluids and actual damage; and finally 3) I’m all about the happy ending, so no darkfic or death fic please (other than cannon if necessary), but I‘m perfectly happy for them to suffer along the way to a happy ending!

Treats are cherished!

Some more specifics about my requests:Read more... )

AO3 meme

Jan. 5th, 2013 06:51 pm
jasmasson: (dark and stormy)
So I did this AO3 meme:

Go to your works on AO3, open up each of the fandoms you've written in by ctrl-clicking or right-clicking on the fandom name and opening it in a new tab, then sort each fandom by hits. See which of your fics appear on the first page of the fandom. You never know, in those little fandoms (or the bigger ones if you've been a good little fangirl) you might even find yourself near the top.

There's only three fandoms I've written more than two fics in on AO3 (it's fair to say I'm not prolific) and here's the results!

1) SPN - ahahahaha. No.
2) Troy RPF - Wow. Number 1! \o/ But, ah, it's not as impressive as all that because actually I've written 5 of the 25 fics on AO3 (20%!) so I'm also 4, 7, 9 and 10 ;)
3) SPN RFP - ahahahaha. No.

I then realised how many different fandoms I've written one fic in, which comes from doing Yuletide for four years, I guess, so here are just the notable ones:

Troy - 1st! and 3rd \o/ Out of 54 - in the interest of full disclosure, the number 1 is the same that made me number 1 on Troy RPF as it was a crossover/roleplay thing.
Myron Bolitar - 1st! \o/ Out of, uh, ahem, 6.
The Outsiders - 1st! Out of 43.
Monty Python RPF - 4 out of 26.
Belgariad/Elenium - 5 out of 21.
Casino Royale - 11 out of 62. But obvs nowhere if you take all Bond movies thanks to the Skyfall phenomenon.
Jeeves and Wooster - 15 out of 395.
X-Men Origins Wolverine - 17 out of 78.
Hard Core Logo - No, but an honourable mention for being first on the Kudos list?

Happy Holidays! Merry Christmas to those who celebrate, and a wonderful 2013 to all.

Ah, Yuletide. Genuinely one of my favourite things about Christmas, and one of the few times in fandom my timezone works for me, because I get to have some sneaky reading as soon as I wake up before the family festivities begin.

I had two (2!!) lovely Yuletide stories this year, both Pointless RPF. Oh my God, if you've never seen Pointless find it and watch it. It's a BBC tea-time quiz show hosted by Alexander Armstrong and Richard Osman.

They are so delightful; clearly very, very intelligent, witty, funny, occassionally silly and definitely incredibly fond of each other. <3

Check out my delightful gifts:

http://archiveofourown.org/works/600555

which I adore.

And, so, Merlin, now I've had a chance to think about it...spoilers ahoy )

Unfortunately, someone won't get the Yuletide treat I was hoping to finish now, as I need to rewatch Merlin a million times instead, because I just can't process it at all.
jasmasson: (Default)
1) Good news - I'm still in [livejournal.com profile] mini_wrimo. I think this is maybe the 4th year I've done it and this is the furthest I've ever got, so \o/

Sadly, I'm probably averaging about 102 words per day, and I've started four different things, but still. Words! Every day! \o/ \o/ \o/

2) Those four things are all in the same fandom and all for [livejournal.com profile] yuletide. Three actually seem mutually exclusive as I'm groping for the same point just in three different ways, so I need to commit to one!

3) I'm mostly on tumblr now, as jasmasson (I know, I'm a master of disguise). If you're on tumblr follow me and I'll follow back. It's no LJ in its heyday, but it's a lot of fun.

I reblog anything that catches my eye and enjoy following multifannish blogs (that's how you find good things on the interwebs!)

4) Fannishly, I'm re-reading a lot of old Due South fics. Dammit, I loved Fraser/RayK and I loved Fraser&RayV, and hot damn there were some great authors in dS.

Also Hockey RPF and Olympic RPF. I have an extremely embarrassing crush on Patrick Kane. I don't know. I can only assume he has somehow stockholmed me into it the way he has apparently also stockholmed Jonathan Toews.

5) I'm enjoying Merlin, although I'm kind of at that stage you get to when you're reading good fic that's getting a little tired in the later stages and I'm just counting the moments until I know... how does it end how does it end how does it end?
jasmasson: (dark and stormy)
1) Yuletide:

I did [livejournal.com profile] yuletide again this year. Sadly, it was not the universally positive experience it had been in previous years as my recipient has not responded to my fic which, as you can imagine, makes me feel pretty awful. However, I wrote two pinch-hits, which the recipients were very kind about, so I probably will still do it next year. Particularly as I got such an awesome Toy Soldiers fic as my gift. \o/

The fics are the top three here at my AO3. They are:
1) Harlan Coben's Myron Bolitar novels, gen, 2.2k, PG13, casefic;
2) Holy Flying Circus (Monty Python RPF), sort of John/Michael, PG13, 1.2k, mostly dialogue; and
3) Wolverine: Origins, Logan/Remy/Victor, NC17, 2.2k, mostly porn.

For serious, though, if you haven't seen Holy Flying Circus, about the debate on a chat show on Monty Python's Life of Brian when it was released, it was an awesome show. A one-off at about 1.5 hours long, and one of my TV highlights for 2011. You can download it from the link at my recipient's DYW letter here if you like. Well worth it, I assure you.

Major thanks to [livejournal.com profile] tehomet, [livejournal.com profile] montmorency and [livejournal.com profile] gestaltrose for various stepping into last-minute beta breeches. <3333

2) New Year Resolutions.

a) To update my DW/LJ once a week.
b) To loose 30 pounds.
c) To do some training at work and not rest on my laurels.
d) To write 1,000 per week. Not 52,000 words per year (although I would obviously take that!), but get some words out every week. Wish me luck!

So far, only a) is going well ;)
jasmasson: (yuletide)
In the past I'm SURE my timezone has worked for me on yuletide and I've been able to dash on while my transatlantic chums have been asleep before Christmas dinner to check out my gift and even a few more. Not today, alas, as the archive wasn't up until half an hour before we sat down to Christmas dinner BUT it was so worth the wait!

A beautiful Toy Soldiers Billy and Joey fic for me! \o/ In actual fact, Toy Soldiers was the reason I started doing yuletide three years ago, because I was looking for TS fic and could only find it on the yuletide archive. And now I have a TS fic of my own to hug and squeeze and call JoeyGeorge! ♥_♥

http://archiveofourown.org/works/294251

More recs later, because I only quickly nipped on to read my gift. Hope you guys are having an happy holidays! <3

Yuletide!

Nov. 18th, 2011 10:17 am
jasmasson: (yuletide)
[livejournal.com profile] yuletide! \o/

I have definitely got my requests sorted (if I'm honest, I had them sorted more-or-less in January!) and they are here in my Dear Yuletide writer letter. They are 'Toy Soldiers' (1991 film), 'Disorganized Crime' (1989 film no one has ever heard of) and Robert Crais's Elvis Cole books. (OK, so I'm showing my age).

I keep second guessing my offers, though. I've done [livejournal.com profile] yuletide the past two years and enjoyed both times enormously. In those years though, definitely I was allocated the most 'mainstream' (it's all relative) fandoms I offered each time, and so I'm half inclined to keep to really wee ones to make it more of a surprise what I get. One of the 'big' fandoms I'm currently offering has a lot more offers than requests (although a high number of both) so perhaps it was just random chance I got such 'big' fandoms? IDK. I need an algorithm.

The first year I wrote The Mechanical Heart as my allocated fic, although I actually wrote four fics (the allocated fic, one pinch hit and two gifts), and it's one of the things I've written that I really liked. It was a Sherlock Holmes fic and that was just before the RDj/Jude Law movie came out (it came out Boxing Day that year). Of course, since that movie and the Sherlock series this fandom is very, very much too big for [livejournal.com profile] yuletide and so I got a lot of hits, comments (pre AO3 kudos button) and recs on that fic as it was a 'big' fandom, growing enormously exactly during that [livejournal.com profile] yuletide reading period. So I must not sadface if only one person reads my fic this year: such is a rare fandom fic exchange.

Remind me of that, won't you?
jasmasson: (yuletide)
1) Failed [livejournal.com profile] mini_nanowrimo yesterday. ):

On the plus side, it was because I was at a spa, which was very relaxing.

2) [livejournal.com profile] yuletide nominations are active! \o/

3) [livejournal.com profile] insmallpackages has also started

I <3 fandom Christmas!

4) I am enjoying the crap out of Merlin this season. Arthur is reaching new heights of deliciousness. The only thing was small nearly non-existant spoiler ), but generally I am LOVING this season. M/A 4 eva.
jasmasson: (Default)
I've not read anything like as much yuletide as I would like, but here are a few recs:

Yuletide

Proper Villains by Anon.
Information: PG-13, gen, 1k words, Ocean's 11, Basher - Danny - Rusty
Warnings: None
Summary: In which Rusty never stops talking, Danny does government work, and Basher is impressed in spite of himself.
Ocean's 12 and 13 can make me forget how much I LOVED Ocean's 11, but I did love it. This is a good one focused on Basher, with delightful Danny and Rusty accessories. Fabulous.

Listening to a Liar by Anon.
Information: R, 3k words, The Outsiders, Gen, Johnny and Dally
Warnings: None
Summary: Dallas joins the gang only a few weeks after coming to Tulsa. It takes a while before he's part of it, though.
Canon! This absolutely happened - perfect representation of Dally and Johnny through Pony's eyes, making it seem just like a prequel to the book. PERFECT.

Broken Knife by Anon.
Information: R, 1k words, The Outsiders, Gen, Johnny and Dally
Warnings: None
Summary: It seems to Johnny he's been watching Dallas Winston his whole life.
I cannot even tell you the perfection of this! Perfectly in character, tightly written with a fantastic theme device. It makes me want a very different ending for the book. D:

Comfort by Anon.
Information: PG, 500 words, The Great Escape, Danny/Willie
Warnings: None
Summary: Willie was the one who saved his life.
Small, but perfectly formed. My first slash pairing. <3

The Other Side by Anon.
Information: PG13, 3k words, The Great Escape, Danny/Willie
Warnings: None
Summary: You made it through the tunnel. It doesn't mean you're free.
Interesting pairing, because they seemed so different. This explores that perfectly.

(P.S. Last year's recs are here.)

Sherlock

A Priori and sequel White Noise by Rubberbutton .
Information: PG-13, Sherlock/John, 6.6k and 8k words, vampire au
Warnings: Slavery
Summary: In which vampires have enslaved humans and control, well, everything. Vampire!Mycroft insists his little brother get a slave -- even though it didn't work out with the dog -- and Sherlock chooses the one guaranteed to irritate his brother the most: an unassuming little doctor with an ugly past and absolutely no style to speak of.
So. I read this because it's about slavery, and you know how I enjoy a good slave!fic, but I must tell you - there is no kinky dub con sex in this fic! But! Do not be disappointed! It's a wonderful story with them completely in character, well-plotted and beautifully understated. If you only read one, reeeeaaad thiiiiis.

Merlin

Castle (the rules by which we live by [livejournal.com profile] kick_flaw.
Information: NC17, 16k words, au
Warnings: BDSM
Summary: Merlin knows that getting off fastest when he's got some BDSM porno playing loud on the computer doesn't mean he'd really like to be that bloke, gagged and bent over and bound. Right?
Well. There is a surprising lack of BDSM fic in Merlin, given that one is the other's servant, and on the other hand an all-powerful wizard, but, whatever! Apparently when there is one, it is GOOOOOD.

ALL of Astolat's Merlin fic by [livejournal.com profile] astolat
Information: 14 wonderful fics. I particularly enjoy Despoiled, Onfidan and An Exile in Alboin.
You are missing out IN LIFE if you haven't read these fics. They are more-or-less my favourite fics on the interweb. A place I go for a quick pick-me-up when I don't have time to risk wasted time on bad fic looking for new things. BRILLIANT.

Hit them with a Shoe by [livejournal.com profile] themegaloo
Information: PG13, 6k words, Merlin/Arthur
Warnings: None
Summary: For the prompt: Arthur/Merlin, Merlin loses (some) control of his magic, and to his dismay, his magic happily starts doing his chores for him. Bonus points for Arthur walking in to find Merlin frantically shouting at Arthur's armour to stop cleaning itself (or some other task) and he is horribly appalled, but then starts to like all the little things Merlin's magic does for him (e.g. tucking him in at night, cutting his meat for him, etc.). Basically, Merlin's magic is as in love with Arthur as Merlin himself, while Merlin remains furious and in denial.
Delightful, awkward boys. <3333
jasmasson: (nanowrimo)
Fic: Hazard Pay
Fandom: James Bond
Rating: PG
Words: 1,497
Warnings: A male Moneypenny
Notes: For days 12, 13 and 14 of [livejournal.com profile] mini_nanowrimo. In the same John Moneypenny series as my [livejournal.com profile] yuletide snippet One Day. I just love the idea of Bond flirting with Moneypenny regardless of gender. You can read this fic on AO3 here, if you're so inclined.

In his third week of working for M, John Moneypenny goes on a field trip and meets James Bond )
jasmasson: (Default)
SO! These were the fics I wrote for [livejournal.com profile] yuletide:

1) The Mechanical Heart. 4,000 words. PG. Holmes/Watson gen. They discover the Victorian Age was one of great danger as well as great advancement.

This was the one I was actually allocated in the exchange. The person requested Sherlock Holmes - friendship, steampunk.

Authorial rambling about the yuletide experience for me: )

2) Bertram and Bunnies. Jeeves and Wooster 1,700 words, PG13, Slash. There's something loose in Bertie's bedroom...

This was a 'pinch-hit' - i.e. this recipient's writer pulled out at the last and I only had one day to write it.

3) Keeping Pets. The Outsiders, Dally/Johnny, gen, 1,200 words, PG. With pets comes responsibility.

This was an extra, yuletide madness gift for a flister (waves to [livejournal.com profile] destina).

4) One Day. James Bond, Bond/boy!Moneypenny, slash, PG, 500 words. John Moneypenny works for M. So does James Bond

This was an extra, yuletide madness gift for someone who needed a late pinch-hit. Someone else did the pinch hit, but I saw the request and liked the looks of it! (I really, rather like the result, too!)

In summary, definitely recommend the yuletide experience!

I'm off out for dinner, now. <3 Happy New Year!

jasmasson: (yuletide noob)
Hope the holiday season is treating you well, and you enjoyed lots of R&R.

It's [livejournal.com profile] yuletide! \o/

Try out some of those cool, small fandoms whydontcha?

I am nowhere NEAR finished reading - barely started - but I've been bookmarking like crazy, and while I've been doing that I've read a few of the shorter fics in some of the fandoms I like the looks of in between the constant round of eating that is Christmas at my house.

I got TWO fics! That makes me do a rather goofy, happy flaily dance. And both are awesome!

My 12 recs are here in Sarah Monette - Doctrine of Labyrinths (MINE!!! ALL MINE!), Aliens (particularly awesome), Red Dwarf, The Shawshank Redemption, Alias Smith and Jones, Some Like it Hot (genius!), Ocean's Eleven, National Treasure (yes, I know the first movie was AWFUL, but the second was OK, and the characters are cute. <3 Riley.), Sherlock Holmes, Breakfast Club (*hearts*).

Enjoy!
