It's because I've relaxed back from work.
ALSO. Inception. Reigniting my fannish spark.
Just read this and it was PERFECT: No One's Going to Take me Alive by
delires. BRILLIANT Arthur/Eames. My fav fic so far, so I had to rec it.
Then I thought about how many other I've enjoyed and I want you all to enjoy to because I <3 you, so here's my delicious tag. I've never used delicious for reccing purposes - just as a personal bookmark - so the tags aren't VERY helpful (I never worry about rating, for example, as it doesn't influence my reading one way or the other) but you should read these fics, definitely. Uh, except the one's tagged toread, obvs. I'll... have to get back to you on those ;)

Date: 2010-10-05 02:44 pm (UTC)Also, speaking of sparking the fannish spark - have you watched the new BBC-version of Sherlock Holmes yet? If not, you have to! Really! It's like... I can't even put it into words. So you have to watch, share the squee and then write
melots of fanfics. Yes.Also, it sounds as if I should possibly watch Inception? Only, "Sherlock" is already eating my life...

Date: 2010-10-08 04:49 pm (UTC)Have you been doing the PhD for a year? I forget. I'm still deciding whether to take a job in my company in the new structure, or take a redundancy package. Decisions, decisions. But at least it's my choice!
Sherlock is very, very delightful. I did watch it and loved it, but it didn't spark fannish me the way inception did. Give it a go - the plot has some holes, sure, but the boys are delicious! ;)

Date: 2010-10-08 08:16 pm (UTC)Yup, it's been a year already. Time flies. Guh. The phd is much more fun now, though, since I'm getting first results. Still, Tuesday I have a talk with my supervisor because I could not meet a deadline and I hope another professor - in modern history - will agree to be 2nd supervisor. never-ending stress.
It's really good that you have the choice. And apparently, also a somewhat realistic time-span to decide. How long would that package tie you over?
No sparks? Huh. I have to say, after I got over the whole "Oooh, look, it's Methos re-visiting a former self!" and the "OMG! When he smiles he looks exactly like [former crush]!", I was soo hooked.

Date: 2010-10-09 02:07 pm (UTC)The package would, just about, pay for three years full time PhD fees, so that's good. But I've only got about enough savings for 18 months of living expenses.
BUT, I really ought to be able to find work of some kind over that time so I reckon I could make the 3 years PhD without getting another 'proper' job... but I would have to seriously economise! Always assuming I could even get ON a PhD programme I like. But at least our stress would be complimentary stress and we could symapthise wholly with each other! *g*
I loved the Sherlock characters. I've always been a Holmes fan, thought the adaption was excellent, and BC is delicous. I also always think MF is an excellent actor. Truth, though? Between you and me? For my fannish timber to spark, I've got to find them both attractive and, love MF as I do, that is NOT the case. *g* Love the Methos comparison, though! And it'd be a fabulous fic... ;) (Meeeeethos. <3333)

Date: 2010-10-09 03:43 pm (UTC)When would be the deadlines for you to apply? Do you still have time to decide on that front? - And yes, we could totally sympathize with eachother!
Ah, that I can understand. I love MF as well - brilliant actor! - but yes, he's adorable but I don't find him quite attrative either. I'm easy like that, though. For me it's all about the one character that I'm completely addicted to (Sherlock! Not even BC whom I mostly find not all that attractive either, weirdly. Which was also the case with Methos vs Peter Wingfield) and I don't even so much care about the rest. I think I kind of blur John Watson in my mind... As I probably did MacLeod.

Date: 2010-10-15 09:22 am (UTC)Exactly. Also I prefer gen in this fandom anyway so then it's easy.
A somewhat related question as there are lots of fics on archiveofourown by now but apparently it takes ages to get an account there - you need some onlien bookmarking thing right? What service do you use? delicious?

Date: 2010-10-15 07:16 pm (UTC)Re AO3 - you don't need bookmarking, but you do need an invite - which I (as an AO3 member, because I did yuletide last year) can send you. Let me know the email addy you'd like to set your account up on, and I'll mail you an invite. It's still not instant, but you should be able to get an account pretty quickly.
Not quite sure what you mean re the bookmarking - I do use delicious, but there's no link to AO3 or anything.

Date: 2010-10-15 10:16 pm (UTC)Oooh, cool. I'd like to use the usual one. So junalele at yahoo de. Whee.
And sorry. I didn't mean that it was linked. I thought about using delicious or something as an alternative because I don't want to cluster firefox by thousands of fanfic bookmarks and also, I'd like to be able to leave myself a note so to speak. :D

Date: 2010-10-16 11:03 pm (UTC)I sent you the invite, so there should be something in your inbox now to that effect - although I don't know when that means you'll get an account.
Delcious works well for me - the tagging system and bookmarking tools make it pretty easy to use - and I'm a technomoron!

Date: 2010-10-22 07:36 pm (UTC)Thank you! Got it! Weirdly on the same day that they allowed me to sign up anyway. Tsk. But anyway, now I'm there. As junalele.
I shall have a look. Thanks for the info!
