I could perhaps use a little bit of guidance, if you don’t mind? I predominantly write fan fic, some original, but fanfic is definitely my comfort zone, and I am starting to think that might be out of place here?

I’ve looked at the first few responses to the prompts and they all seem very beautiful and personal to the extent where it feels like writing silly fic about cartoon characters might be inappropriate! 😉 I’ve looked back over past posts and it seems to be common to be quite personal; in your experience would you say fanfic is suitable and perhaps the ‘tonal’ problem this time relates to the seriousness of the prompt or perhaps I should try and be more genuine?

With the understanding that this is my personal opinion only: FanFic is fine, but it may depend on what it is based on / how well known the source is? Like Harry Potter is well known; a particular manga maybe far less so.

We do have a lot of personal essays; we do get a lot of fiction, some poetry, I’ve seen occasional cartoons and even song lyrics (sometimes with an accompanying video attached/inserted).

As long as your entry is well written, and the reader can find a connection to the prompt, you should be fine. I hope that helps!
