Recs: Merlin and X-Men
Oct. 2nd, 2011 11:35 am1) Started my month on the
crack_van as Merlin reccer, and gave this as my first:
Title: Bring the Sun Back
Fandom: MERLIN
Pairing: Merlin/Arthur
Length: 25,000 words
Author on LJ:
pushdragon
Author Website: Master Post
Why this must be read: The summary tells you most of what you need to know: Fanfic classic #3: Unexpected Possession of Magic. Inexplicable things keep happening around Arthur. In the end, he can only accept that he's got magic in him. Magic is a curse that needs to be stamped out, and Arthur shows himself no mercy.
Arthur's reaction to his 'magic' (his horourable resolve) and Merlin's reaction to losing Arthur (darkest anguish) are exactly spot-on in a beautifully crafted story taking one of the staples of Merlin fandom - the magic reveal/discovery - and giving it a fantastic and well written twist.
I won't do them all here, so check out the
crack_van anyway - it's my favourite multi-fandom rec site.
2) And also, I think it's time I rec'd this fic on the X-Men kinkmeme: Late Bloomer. I've mostly stopped reading XMEN, (FYI it's Teen Wolf, Merlin and The Social Network for me right now), but I can't leave this one. It's a long WIP, but frequently updated highschool au.
Erik is his human-hatin' self and Charles is the human making him question all his values. THEN, when he's come to terms with it all and it's all swimming and lovely, it turns out that Charles is a mutant just a 'late bloomer'. Cue angst. I love the warning the author gives on her updates: 'minor themes of real life situational trauma'... er... which part is like 'real life' again? *snicker*, but despite that, it's excellent.
