This post includes all recs in date order. Most Recent up the top. Each set of recs ordered by fandom and by genre (slash/gen etc). At the bottom are my top one (or sometimes two) fic(s) in every fandom I have ever read in.

EDIT: All I seem to do is rec these days, but OTOH I'm really not keeping this post up. I'll leave it here; basically it has old SPN recs up to May 2009 and my BEST FIC in each fandom I've ever read at the bottom, but for things post May 2009 you'll need to use tags.

In an effort to be helpful, therefore, here are the tag links to all recs, and things I rec regularly:

Merlin Recs
Inception Recs

Interesting. Just read this Kane/Toews de-aged fic and it occurs to me that although I’ve read many of this trope (one of my very favourites) I’ve never read one before from the de-aged POV rather than the adult POV. I liked it!

http://archiveofourown.org/works/711262?view_full_work=true (Never getting that shirt back, Kane/Toews, 16k words, R)

Anyone got any de-aged recs? Any fandom, any POV?
jasmasson: (where's dean)
So, I read a SPN RPS fic today for the first time in, IDK, 3-4 years?

Because I still love the boys even if I don't love SPN anymore, and, more importantly, my love of Peter Pan is part of my DNA and it's a Peter Pan au, and also a sneak coffee shop au! \o/ My cup runneth over. 10k words, R, J2.

Stuff I've been reading recently in a range of fandoms (I really need to commit to one) that has been AMAZING.

1) Julia Roberts Sits on a Throne of Lies by [livejournal.com profile] smithereen, Hocky RPS, Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane, NC17, whore!fic, WIP, in which Tazer is the worst hooker ever and Kaner sucks at paying for sex. OK, I have never seen these guys play a game of hockey but that doesn't matter, even if you know nothing at all about them, this is brilliant.

FYI, all I know about hockey I learnt from Of Hawks and Hands a F/K 200,000 word fic by [livejournal.com profile] dsudis. If you like slash and haven't read this you have no idea what you've been missing out on. You will forever rue the days weeks months and years in which you had not read this fic. Easily one of my top 20 fics of all time.

2) Team Building Activities by [livejournal.com profile] valtyr, 38,000 words, The Avengers, Steve/Tony, R. The best avengers fic I've read, I think.

3) The Illusion of Life by [livejournal.com profile] toestastegood, Heroes, Mylar, 6,600 words, set in the 5 years gone universe, read the author's warnings. Shona writes in many fandoms very much to my taste, and this is the best Mylar fic I've ever read (I read it years ago, it was written straight after Season One, I think). Brilliant fic, just as good on the re-read.

4) Kings of the Mountain by faviconsloganeer, The Social Network, 12,000 words, Mark/Eduardo, NC17, AU. Nice AU in which the separation never happened and they slowly developed a relationship instead. Lovely, sexy, curtain!fic.

Here's hoping 2012 brings you only good things.

1) I rec'd The Social Network over December at the [livejournal.com profile] crack_van: 31 Mark/Edaurdo recs here

2) On that topic I have signed up for the tsn-a-thon at tumblr. Go Team Saverin! ;)
jasmasson: (yuletide)
In the past I'm SURE my timezone has worked for me on yuletide and I've been able to dash on while my transatlantic chums have been asleep before Christmas dinner to check out my gift and even a few more. Not today, alas, as the archive wasn't up until half an hour before we sat down to Christmas dinner BUT it was so worth the wait!

A beautiful Toy Soldiers Billy and Joey fic for me! \o/ In actual fact, Toy Soldiers was the reason I started doing yuletide three years ago, because I was looking for TS fic and could only find it on the yuletide archive. And now I have a TS fic of my own to hug and squeeze and call JoeyGeorge! ♥_♥

More recs later, because I only quickly nipped on to read my gift. Hope you guys are having an happy holidays! <3
jasmasson: (merlin)
1) Started my month on the [livejournal.com profile] crack_van as Merlin reccer, and gave this as my first:

Title: Bring the Sun Back
Fandom: MERLIN
Pairing: Merlin/Arthur
Length: 25,000 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] pushdragon
Author Website: Master Post
Why this must be read: The summary tells you most of what you need to know: Fanfic classic #3: Unexpected Possession of Magic. Inexplicable things keep happening around Arthur. In the end, he can only accept that he's got magic in him. Magic is a curse that needs to be stamped out, and Arthur shows himself no mercy.

Arthur's reaction to his 'magic' (his horourable resolve) and Merlin's reaction to losing Arthur (darkest anguish) are exactly spot-on in a beautifully crafted story taking one of the staples of Merlin fandom - the magic reveal/discovery - and giving it a fantastic and well written twist.

I won't do them all here, so check out the [livejournal.com profile] crack_van anyway - it's my favourite multi-fandom rec site.

2) And also, I think it's time I rec'd this fic on the X-Men kinkmeme: Late Bloomer. I've mostly stopped reading XMEN, (FYI it's Teen Wolf, Merlin and The Social Network for me right now), but I can't leave this one. It's a long WIP, but frequently updated highschool au.

Erik is his human-hatin' self and Charles is the human making him question all his values. THEN, when he's come to terms with it all and it's all swimming and lovely, it turns out that Charles is a mutant just a 'late bloomer'. Cue angst. I love the warning the author gives on her updates: 'minor themes of real life situational trauma'... er... which part is like 'real life' again? *snicker*, but despite that, it's excellent.
jasmasson: (charles yeah)
1) Loving the idea for a women in fandom week next week:

2) On a diet - started Monday, so far so good. From my friend's wedding pics I looked and thought, OMG, who is that?! So I set myself a challenge to lose 26 pounds by Christmas. It sounds like a lot because it is. D:

2a) So obviously I'm craving cake. This makes awesome cake. Also, I love recipes that have videos with them don't you? Makes it so much easier and conquered my fear of making ganache!

3) This M/E fic is hilarious. It's WIP, but 6/7 done and frequently updated. http://archiveofourown.org/works/244979/chapters/377754 'Get me to the Church on Time'.

4) I appear to be caving thanks to [livejournal.com profile] nrrrdy_grrrl, [livejournal.com profile] cordelia_gray and
[livejournal.com profile] pessen03 I may well be giving S6 a chance... but not before I've watched all of Teen Wolf! (Who needs sleep, right?)

Rec - TSN

jasmasson: (mfu mom)
Ya know how I was complaining about how no one was writing Mark/Eduardo anymore except in bite sized pieces yesterday? Well, today I would like to complain about how Jared Padalecki never comes to my house to have sex with me because the very next day, an awesome M/E 75k word fic with kink!

YES. It is like all my Christmases at once.

Seriously - whether you like TSN or not, this is a brilliantly crafted fic incorporating BDSM and relationships and personalities and how they all mesh (or don't mesh) together. It's pretty 'lite' BDSM, though (no more than a few short scenes, no more than spanking and tying up), so even if that's not your cup of tea, it's still a masterpiece:

Driveby rec. Liked this one a lot.

Cryptography for Beginners by thedeadparrot, Mark/Eduardo, 14k, Explicit, very clever use of cryptography. Nice.

I enjoy lists:

1) I'm going to sign up for ae-matchup. I'm going to write something again, dammit, I refuse to let horrid work keep me from enjoying fandom. You can too! (but only today, because sign ups close today)

2) My fandoms are not very active, alas. I should know waaayyy better than to get invested in movie fandoms (they burn hot and short as there isn't the fuel to the flames of a regular TV series to keep them going) but I currently care about Inception, The Eagle and The Social Network and they're all next-to-over as the next big thing (X-Men it seems) comes along. *le sigh*

3) On the subject of fandom sadness: WOE, I just removed my last, token SPN icon. I'm on a basic account and so only get 6. Au revoir, half-naked Sammy. It was a wrench, I'm not gonna lie.

4) Unpopular fandom opinion: I am feeling very nervous about Merlin because I'm not really happy about maybe a very, very vague spoiler? ). I watch for Arthur and Merlin. If there's not enough of them together, or even long stretches with neither, I'll start putting it on my sky+ and skipping through the bits they're not in :(

5) Ahahahaha.

funny pictures - When Batman villains mate, it's never a pretty picture.
see more Lolcats and funny pictures, and check out our Socially Awkward Penguin lolz!

6) RECS!

http://a-jejune-star.livejournal.com/899.html What you see is what you get, TSN, Mark/Eduardo, 16k, NC17, kitten husbandry. LOVE.

http://passe-simple.livejournal.com/32670.html Shelter TSN RPF, Andrew/Jesse, 62k, andrew filmstar/jesse dishwasher, check the author - you know you're in safe hands

http://yinfic.livejournal.com/20516.html 100% Cotton-Conundrum sga/sherlock crossover, john/sherlock, mckay/sheppard, v short, PG, sherlock deducing (not seducing) the sga boys, great last line :D

These are really good:

Play me and put me away : Arthur/Eames, 16k, PG13, AU, College, Coming Out. I'm always tempted to read fics about characters struggling to come to terms with their sexuality. This is a very good one - Arthur really believable.

Also Pants on Fire by [personal profile] helenish, 15k, NC17, Arthur/Eames. A+++++ A brilliant take on the old amnesia trope. GREAT fic.
jasmasson: (Default)
Following in [personal profile] destina's footsteps where she rec'd vids, I thought I'd commemorate the end of Smallville with a Clex fic rec post.

There was some great, dare I say seminal, fics written in Smallville fandom, and though I stopped watching and reading in about S3 (couldn't stomach the Lex/Lana) so obvs all fics AT LEAST 7 years old!, there are two that stick firmly in my mind and I'll never forget:

1) Koi's Mercy (dark, noncon, torture). JFC that's one hell of a fic. I've talked about it on this journal before, because it's a fic that's always at the top of my mind when I think of great fic. I probably can't say it's my favourite, because it's a difficult fic, but I LOVE how it's written from a POV that isn't, uh, well-balanced and should, by rights, not be sympathetic. It's just amazingly written. One of the best fics I've ever read.

2) You know how one of the great things about fandom is how it builds on itself - remixes and inspired works, often because you read a fic and you think that was GREAT, but I would have done X slightly differently, or it would have been great in Y fandom, or with Z pairing, and so we get inspired? Every fandom I'm ever in, I always want to write a version of this fic in it. I never do - but I always WANT to.

Sleep While I Drive by jenn([personal profile] seperis)

And an honorable mention to The Rules of Blue by the goddess-like Thamaris. And The Orbiting Series by Rhiannonhero. (This leads to her fic page, go down to the series links at the bottom. For some reason this is the only place I can find all the fics together - SSA and AO3 are incomplete). Great fic.

I also wrote in Smallville myself. Only twice, but, hey, I've never been prolific in any fandom, so that's not too bad. FYI here are my fics. Warning - Maybe Baby is diabetes-inducing:

Maybe Baby: Clex, PG13, Lex reverts to childhood

Worth: Clex, R, Lex has some Lionel issues post Lineage
jasmasson: (Default)
Oh, how I should be working. And, if not working, then writing. But I'm doing neither. D:

On the plus side - I have recently read some amazing fic.

Viking/Slave AU by [livejournal.com profile] helenish (Inception, NC17, 40k+words, Arthur/Eames). Fantastically developed and wonderfully in character. The hearts. They are in my eyes.

Also, this Pirates AU WIP by [livejournal.com profile] ninhursag, R (for violence and suggestion of noncon), The Social Network, Mark/Eduardo. God, this woman can paint a picture of a world so well. I am WAITING with baited breath. *fidgets*

Have I ever mentioned how much I have loved all recent incarnations of Doctor Who? Nine, Ten and Eleven have all been a delight to me. And have I ever said how much I love John Simms as The Master? (He can Master me anytime. Ahem. Sorry.) No? Consider it said.

Anyhow, this vid was rec'd by [livejournal.com profile] xanthelj, and I loved it. Very clever.

and it made me think of The Master, which made me think of Life on Mars and so I grabbed me a fic to read and OH MY GOD. THIS...

Ease my worried mind by Petra ([livejournal.com profile] petronelle), is Life on Mars in [livejournal.com profile] xanthelj's BDSM universe. Explicit, 24k, Sam/Gene, Sam/Annie and it is utterly PERFECT. Doing in character BDSM is SO VERY HARD, and this is unutterably brilliant. A++++++++

There was a program recently called 'My Life in Books' where 'famous' people talked about books they've read over their life and how they affected them, and when I'm old I'm going to be able to do that for fanfics as well as books and movies. Some fics I'll remember always. It's nice to think, I'm sure, as an author, that you've touched someone (not in a bad place) so they'll remember you even though you'll never meet them.

And today I read another one! It's 15 Detentions (The Breakfast Club, Bender/Brian, 8.5k, R). This is one that spoke to me about the highschool experience, much like the breakfast club itself did when I saw it. You really SHOULD READ.

I don't know why, given it really WAS NOT in canon, but there are a few truly excellent Bender/Brian fics out there to go along with this one; Most Likely To by the same (fabulous) author Kaneko, and also [livejournal.com profile] resonant8's Higher Education and sequel Bare.

I read this from [livejournal.com profile] nomelon's recs here. Check em out. I can't be bothered to type anymore but I second heartily her H50 and Community recs. <3 Troy.
jasmasson: (merlin)
You must read this: Hypothetically Yours by currently anon. Merlin/Arthur, 7k, R. MAGIC CLUBS, TEEN GUILT, MILD PAINPLAY. Be still my heart. I definitely have the best fic written for me *preens*. Really captures the awkwardness of adolescence. I COULD NOT love this more. <3

Also, for delicious porn try a 7k pwp of Light Foot Lads combos of Gwaine/Arthur/Merlin, NC17. I only read today because I wasn't going to (due to non-OTP pairings) but the warnings were enough to entice me in (read them before reading). Oh how surprised I won't be when the author of this is revealed...

ALSO [livejournal.com profile] ella_bane's Merlin/Arthur touching picspam is bringing joy to my heart. SUCH PRETTY BOYS. SUCH LOVING TOUCHES. <3333333
jasmasson: (Default)
REPOST: (Because I found the Merlin, and the Eagle one has been finished! \o/)

This is a perfect Eames/Arthur, NC17, 3k - hilarious and hot: Untitled redux by [livejournal.com profile] helenish. As you can tell by the 'redux' of the title, she has also written another, equally awesome, where Eames is the fake boyfriend here.

5 times Esca watched Marcus.... NC17, 4k. I want all The Eagle fic in the world - it is made for my tastes. This one is a five times +1 kinkmeme with Esca watching Marcus masturbating (masturbating is a word I always have trouble typing - they always end up matsubating). Part 4? I died.

Coming of Age by [livejournal.com profile] sebastiansais. Long, Merlin/Arthur. A difficult story with infidelity, break ups and personal growth and inarticulate boys, but fantastically done. Bravo.
jasmasson: (Default)
Damn, I am a multi-fandom rec-ing machine right now!

Today, have this delicious piece; our maps are slippery witness by [livejournal.com profile] spikeface, Inception, Arthur/Eames, mid-short, BDSM.

Well. I love anything that delves into the complexities of the BDSM relationship, and this one has a beautiful touch for a 'reluctant' dom. If you like BDSM fics, strongly recommend you give it a whirl. It's not sexy (IMHO), but very interesting.
jasmasson: (Default)
Good holy hell, this is hot. (The Eagle, dub con, short)

This is actually the first eagle fic I've tagged as slave!fic in my delicious because mainly, in fanon, it's not like that between them. But it is here. Mmmm.

ALSO! Sign up for [livejournal.com profile] merlin_melee. Challenge one is h/c which I couldn't resist. Y'all know how I like tears and bruises, and sore, reddened flesh...
